New Leadership For a Better Thornton

I have called Thornton home for nearly 25 years. Thornton is the city I grew up in, as I watched our bedroom community grow into the thriving 6th largest city that it is today. Most of my family still lives within the city limits today. I became involved with our
local government as a young adult, because of a development that was occurring near my home. As a long-term resident of the area, I felt it was my duty to have my voice heard. I started to attend City Council meetings and spoke frequently with our
Mayor and City Councilors. I gained relationships between local elected officials and myself, working on numerous issues
facing my community.
I have the experience of being raised by a single parent mother of five children in a three bedroom apartment home.
At times, we applied for government programs, such as Section 8 housing assistance, LEAP heat assistance, and SNAP food assistance. With this help, my mother was able to work a full-time job and attend school part-time all while raising my
siblings and me.
Many of these hardships taught me my mother’s philosophy of being able to do more, with less. She taught me that it’s ok to
ask for a helping hand up, but not just a simple hand out. I was taught that I should never take more than what is absolutely
needed from the community, and to give back to it. All of this is what helped contribute to me being the result of a successful
participating member of our Thornton community. Now it’s my turn to give back to the community that has helped give me so
much. It would be an honor to be your next Councilor for Ward 2. I look forward to representing you, after all you are the only special interest I have!
